Summary

Inline notation for marking specific instances that may be self-sourcing examples, instead of marking entire articles or sections with This page is being depreciated or This page is being depreciated.

Usage

This template is used in articles to identify an example that may not have any sources, or that has sources that fall under self-sourcing examples in popular culture. It produces a superscripted notation like the following:

Heavy metal is a genre of rock music characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, and overall loudness. Notable groups include Wrathchild, a glam metal band from Evesham, England.[1][2][importance of example(s)?]

You may replace the default tooltip reason with |reason=:

Jiminy Cricket is an example of insects in literature.[1][importance of example(s)?]

Adding this template to an article places the article into Category:All articles lacking reliable references or a dated subcategory thereof, part of a family of categories identifying articles with reliable-sourcing issues. To find all such articles, see Category:Wikipedia articles with sourcing issues.

When not to use

Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced should be removed immediately. Do not tag it: remove it. For more information, see the section on contentious material in the Biography of Living Persons policy.

Material which is doubtful and harmful may be removed immediately, rather than tagged. See Unsourced material.

If no citation is given, you should use the This page is being depreciated tag in conjunction with this tag.

If you have the time and ability to find a better reference, please do so. Then correct the citation yourself, or correct the article text. After all, the ultimate goal is not to merely identify problems, but to fix them.
