NEU Battery Materials is a Singapore-based lithium recycling startup.
Technology
NEU Battery Materials uses a redox targeting electrochemical extraction to recovers lithium from black mass[1].
Their patented process requires electricity as its only consumable, and utilises regenerative chemicals to avoid toxic waste and harsh acids. This technique produces battery-grade lithium which can be supplied back to battery manufacturers, and is the world’s first redox targeting recycling method capable of processing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries[2].
The firm is currently operateing a pilot production plant in Singapore, where it recycles manufacturing scrap and end-of-life batteries from various regions and clients[3].
Traction
In 2024, NEU Battery Materials entered a partnership with Green Renewable Sustainable Technology, a China-based battery recycling and manufacturing company to accelerate the commercialisation of LFP battery recycling[4].
Accolades
The startup has won multiple awards since it's founding, including:
- Overall Champion and GreenTech Winner at EPIC 2025, Hong Kong’s flagship innovation and technology competition organised by HKSTP[5]
- 2025 BNEF Pioneers Finalist in the "Innovations in energy storage" challenge[6]
- In 2023, the Singapore Management University Chancellor Award, the Maybank Young Entrepreneurship Shield Award, the Sembcorp Industries Ltd Greenovation Award, and the YIT Haina Innovation Award, accumulating US$190,000 in prize money[7]

NEU Battery Materials secured a US$3.7 million in an oversubscribed seed funding round led by SGInnovate, with participation from ComfortDelGro Ventures, Shift4Good, Paragon Ventures.
