When used by itself:
- From a file extension: This is a redirect from a title that is a file extension (such as
.svgand.txt) to a related topic, such as an explanatory article, section of an article or a table. An example is: .jpg
JPEG.
- It leads to the title in accordance with the naming conventions for common names and can help writing. It is not necessary to replace these redirected links with a piped link.
- This redirect is automatically sorted by the first letter (not by the leading dot).

Usage
- This redirect category (rcat) template populates both Category:Redirects from file extensions and Category:Unprintworthy redirects. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Mainspace (main-article namespace) redirects from file extensions are not suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy.
